The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is a recreational place located in Ohio, United States. According to survey conducted by USA Travel Guides in 2009, the zoo has been given No. 1 position among the all zoos in the United States.
Animals and Species
The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is the home of over 10,000 animals and over 793 species which are collected from all across the globe. The major animals of the zoon includes gorillas, monkeys, tigers, zebras, giraffes, crocodiles, snakes and many more. The zoo welcomes nearly 2.3 million tourist each year.
Recreational areas of the zoo
The Zoo also has cafes and small restaurants facility inside it for the visitors coming over there. The golf lovers can also make use of 18-holes golf course which is called Safari Golf Club. In addition to that, Zoo also owns two small amusement parks named as Zoombezi Bay and Jungle Jack's Landing. The zoo is spread across 580 acres of land but only half of it is used by the zoo.
History
The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium was established in 1927 as Columbus Zoological Gardens. Later in 1970, the Zoological Park Association, Inc took charge of whole management and operations of the zoo. The name was finally changed to Columbus Zoo and Aquarium in 1999.
