What is Singapore Customs?
Singapore Customs is a Government organization under the Ministry of Finance Singapore. It was re-constituted on April 1, 2003 to bring revenue collection, business certification, business facilitation and security functions under one organization together. The Headquarter is located in Revenue House, Singapore. Singapore Customs maintains customs and trade rules to build trust in Singapore’s external trading plan, facilitate business, and protect revenue. As the Singapore's single authority on Customs and trade, it plays a proactive role in controlling the complex requirements of business facilitation, security and regulating conformity to support Singapore as an international business center. Collecting and protecting customs revenue, facilitation of trade, implementation of trade requirements under the FTA (Free Trade Agreements) and enforcement against the illegal trade are the functions of Singapore Customs agency. Singapore customs agency works under six divisions named trade, Compliance, policy making and planning, Corporate Services, Inspection and Corporate Development and under these divisions 26 operating branches are working. The divisions and branches collectively do all functions ranging from trade to revenue. Singapore Customs in 2007 released Asia's first security programme 'The Secure Trade Partnership (STP)'. A voluntary certification program had organized by Singapore customs for those business organizations that seek for safety measures in trading operations. Singapore Customs manages an effective regulatory regime that is very easy to adapt even for ever-changing business organizations.
