The first phase cost was S$1.3 billion. It was opened on 1 July, 1981 with the first flight. Some sections were still incomplete. The second runway was completed in 1983. Construction of second terminal was started in 1999.It cost S$1.75 billion. The terminal increases the number of passengers by 22 million. Total annually capacity is 70 million passengers. Commercially Important person terminal was opened on 22 September,2006. This was the first luxury terminal Airport in Asia.
On march 1,2012 Changi Airport announced for establish 4th terminal with the capacity of 16 million passengers. On 7 march,2012 government of Singapore announced to build multistory Complex and Carpark.
There is still enough space for 2 more runways. They are expending its terminal continuously. Air traffic control power was constructed in 1st phase plan. It has 2 parallel runways. There are 4 lending systems. Two different lounges with 24- hour napping areas.
