RAC Limited came into existence in the year 1897 through the efforts of Henry Jervis Mulliner. The company officially formed as associate section of the Royal Automobile Club in the year 1901. The company was reformed as R.A.C. Motoring Services Ltd in the year 1978. The company purchased by Lex Service PLC through the Royal Automobile Club members. After this acquisition, the company changed its corporate name from R.A.C. Motoring Services Ltd to RAC Limited in 1999. In the year 2008, the company stopped selling loan products with the RAC brand.
