What is Prism?
PRISM is an intelligence program based on the mass electronic surveillance data mining. It was introduced in 2007 by an American defense and intelligence agency, National Security Agency (NSA). The program has been created to fetch data from various U.S. based internet companies including Skype, Yahoo, Apple, Microsoft, Facebook and Google. It is recognized by the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court. PRISM enables the National Security Agency and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to make an easy access over emails, documents, video and audio for tracking the movements and contacts of suspected persons. The Terrorist Surveillance Program was the former information fetching program (before PRISM) which was introduced in after the September 11 attacks under the Presidency of George W. Bush. It was criticized as the United States Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court's warrants were not included in this program. The program works under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978 Amendments Act of 2008, which facilitates the private companies to interact with the U.S. Government agencies legally.
