It was established in the year 1937 by employees of the State of North Carolina. In the beginning, the credit union had only 17 members and assets of about $437. Presently, State Employees Credit Union is commonly called as 'SECU' which is the 2nd biggest credit union throughout the United States in terms of assets and members. According the 2013, State Employees Credit Union has over 1.8 million members and assets of around $26.5 billion. It has its corporate office in Raleigh, North Carolina, United States and has a large network of 242 branch offices and 1,100 ATMs which are spread in North Carolina, Raleigh, Charlotte, Wilmington, Durham and Greensboro. The institution provides a wide range of financial services regarding consumer loans, investments, Savings, credit cards and mortgages.
