Niger Delta once called as ‘Oil Rivers’ is one of the most important provinces of Nigeria as it was once one of the major areas of producing Palm oil in North Eastern Africa. The field is very densely inhabited area and located on the Atlantic Coast of Nigeria. The area is notorious for being a center of widely reported controversy of pollution, widespread damage to the natural resources of the area, oil theft, high level corruption by the once ruling Abache regime and their human rights violations and violence resulting the death & suffering several millions of people living in the region. Though the area was one of the most money minting Regions of Nigeria, the poor governance, violence & corruption end in the downtrodden condition of the Delta.

The main Aim of the ministry is primarily to systematize and regulate the current protocol for the reinforcement and impervious freedom of the Niger Delta terrain and the other branch of the ministry, The Minister of State was established for the infrastructural & educational development of the youth. The ministry has the standard rule to codify, purge and schedule the other Enterprise system, and also counterpart the action of communities, government agencies, and international Donors for the progressive expansion of the Niger Delta region. There are nine administrations and six sections in ministry affairs. Each performs variety of roles in different way.
Ufot Ekaette and Godsday Orubebe are the two kin’s chosen for the post of Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs and Ministry of State in December 2008 which was elected by the honorable president Umaru Musa Yar’Adua. Dr.Yahaya A .Abdullahi is the Permanent Secretary and Larry Koinyan a former Air Vice Marshal is the new Chairman of the NDDC (Niger Delta Development Commission) which was existing before the ministry was formed and eventually moved under the command of the Ministry. The Ministry has put in several successful programs for the betterment of the youth namely the Job fair in 2009 bringing around thirty Companies of repute to attend. The fair resulted in more than 11000 jobs and training offers which was phenomenal by any yardstick. Even with the few such success stories, according to Minister Ufot Ekaette the ministry was finding it difficult to achieve its primary targets as the Budget allocated for the ministry could not be properly utilized due to the volatile condition of the Delta and also the vehement mistrust of the local people due to their horrendous experience from the past governments.
Peter Orubebe is the new appointed Minister under the President Goodluck Jonathan when he came into power in 2010. The new Minister’s report is that very Little has been achieved in the first four years since the ministry has been formed. Several announced projects are yet to see the Light of day and started ones are still in various stages of development and way behind schedule. These where due to the mismanagement of the budgets and conducted without a proper supervising team. The focus of the ministry is now to complete the projects that have already begun and then concentrate on the announced ones. The Ministry has stated that no new projects will definitely be announced until the completion of the committed projects. Focus will be on projects pertaining to development general infrastructure of the area like the road transport, water, electricity which unfortunately was behind schedules and will be completed as early as possible.
