The owner of the airport is Bridgepoint Capital and is operated by Leeds Bradford International Airport Limited. It is located in Yeadon, West Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom.
The initial name of the airport was the Leeds and Bradford Municipal Aerodrome and on the behalf of Leeds and Bradford Corporation, it was operated by the Yorkshire Aeroplane Club. The services of the airport are provided to the North and West Yorkshire, Leeds and Bradford. It is regarded as the largest airport in the Yorkshire region and the sixteenth busiest airport of United Kingdom as of 2012, Due to the number of passengers handled by it. The public ownership of the airport came to an end in May 2007, when it was purchased by the Bridgepoint Capital. The airport is also a base for many well-known airlines such as Ryanair, Jet2.com and Monarch Airlines.
The scheduled flights from the airport were started on April 8, 1935 and the first airline to serve the airport was the North Eastern Airways.In the year 1955, flights were started to many new locations such as Ostend, Belfast, the Isle of Wight, Jersey etc. Five years later in 1960, the flights were started for London. In 1965, the airport started a new runway.
