Founded by Joseph A. Bank and Charles Bank, Jos A. Bank in 1905, the company commenced its operations as a tailor shop in Baltimore, Maryland. Later, Charles Bank started making men's pants. The company extended its business to wholesale by supplying their suits to various cloth vendors trading across the region. In 1940, Jos A. Bank Clothiers bought new place to accommodate their cutting tools and equipment in Baltimore. After the World War 2, the company shifted its base to retail and partnered with Louie's, Inc. to sell their merchandise. By 1981, its network of retail stores had grown to 11 stores and in the same year it was acquired by the Quaker Oats Company. In order to promote its clothing online, Joseph A. Bank introduced its Web in August 1998.
