What is Family Court Ahmedabad?

Family Court Ahmedabad is located at Paldi, Ahmedabad District, Gujarat. The Family Court Act, 1984 came into commencement on 14th September 1984, by the view of Smt. Durgabai Deshmukh along with certain judges and legal experts put a proposal to Prime Minister Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru in order to set up Family courts in India. They were established with the view to promote conciliation and secure fast settlement of disputes relating to marriage and family affairs and matters connected therewith. The Act is applicable to whole India except the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Every state government by rule should set up such establishment in consultation with high courts for every area in the state comprising a city or a town where the population exceeds one million. The type of cases heard in family court include decree for nutility of marriage, divorce, judicial separation, custody of children, claim of maintenance, access of children, matrimonial property matters etc. the state government, with concurrence with High Court may appoint one or more persons to be the Judge of family courts and also the counsellors, psychological experts, officers and other employees required. The unique feature of this judicial system is emphasis on conciliation and only after it fails the proceedings are taken up for trial by the court. The Act emphasises on appointment of people to family court who should be committed to the need to protect and preserve the institution of marriage and also emphasises on appointment of women judges.
