What is Essence Magazine?
Essence Magazine is a lifestyle magazine created specially for African-American women aged between 18 to 49 years. It publishes articles related to different field such as fashion, lifestyle, beauty tips, family and social issues. It also feature articles from renowned celebrities and their interviews mostly from the African American community. It is published once in a month and was started in the year 1970. Initially its circulation was about 50,000 copies which now arose to 1.6 million copies. It was formed after the establishment of Essence Communications Incorporation (ECI) in the year 1968. Every year the magazine organize a program named 'Essence Music Festival' in which a large number of musicians and other musical talent got together from the African-American community. The festival features musical nights and many people are honored with awards and accolades on this occasion. The festival in its history saw many famous personalities like Prince, Beyonce, Tamia, Mary J. Blige, Lionel Richie and others etc. In the year 2007, the festival saw both presidential candidates of the United States Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton made special appearances.
