David Lloyd is an English businessman and tennis player, who was born on 3 January, 1948 in Leigh-on-Sea. In 1990, he gave birth to a health and sport club named David Lloyd Leisure. It has a wide network of gyms and health facilities spread in many destinations countrywide. The club is owned by the TDR Capital. David Lloyd Leisure is aimed at serving its members with innovative and high quality health and fitness services. The company manages health clubs and tennis courts in England and other regions in Europe. It has over 12,500 exercise machines, tennis and squash courts. A network of 150 indoor and outdoor swimming pools enables the members to relax with active fun. The company also provides exercise classes on the weekends for encouraging the members to maintain their health and fitness. Till 1995, the company has 18 clubs and then a multinational hospitality and leisure company Whitbread PLC acquired its operations, which included the company in the Restaurants and Leisure Division. In August 2007, the company was purchased by London based property company London and Regional Properties, which in September 2013, sold it to its current owner TDR Capital. TDR Capital invested £50m in expanding the business in English and European regions. In April 2014, David Lloyd Leisure joined hands with Universal Music UK and introduced a new music application David Lloyd Playlist.
