BookRenter is the provider of books on rent and purchase services in the United States of America. The company has a collection of books of various courses, and claims to provide books at lower cost than other book sellers. It has been recognized by the Better Business Bureau (BBB) with A+ ratings. At BookRenter, the students can purchase, rent or return books. The online services enable students to search books by title, ISBN or author name. The founder Colin Barceloux while studying at the Santa Clara University, got frustrate with the expensive new books and decided to establish a new company which would provide rental services for books. He used to work as a mailman in the University for paying his books and other needs such as clothes, food, etc. After noticing a large number of used books in the University campus, he collected all the books, repaired them and prepared for sale through online channels for the students across the nation. Before the foundation of the company, the founder worked for various companies and eventually joined hands with two local engineers, Philippe Huibonhoa and Chris Williams and as a result BookRenter started operations. The company joined hands with Alibris, a company that provides new and used books, music items and more, to serve its customers with a comprehensive catalog of books. BookRenter in 2010 announced to make its first international expansion with the opening of online stores at 11 schools in Canada. For this purpose, it partnered with Follett. The company in March 2012 changed its name to Rafter, Inc., unaffecting its other operations. In the June of the same year, the company completed the acquisition of a software company HubEdu.
