What is the Eastern Air Command?
The Eastern Air Command is operational commands of the Indian Air Force. It has its headquarters in Shillong, Meghalaya. It started its operation in Calcutta as an effort of Govt of India defence of the Eastern borders. In 1959 it was converted into Command. The command now covers 11 states and is surrounded by the international borders of Nepal, Bhutan, China, Myanmar and Bangladesh including 6300 km of common border. the Eastern Air Command has established its permanent base in Chabua, Guwahati, Bagdogra, Barrackpore, Hasimara, Jorhat, Kalaikunda and Tezpur.
