What is Surrey School District?

The Surrey School District is the largest school district in British Columbia. The school district consists of 101 elementary schools, 19 secondary schools, 5 learning centers and 4 adult education centers. The school district is led by the board of trustees for a 3 year term. There are different types of learning programs provided to the children including career programs, Surrey Connect distributed learning programs, learner support teams, Gifted education, Community-Schools Partnerships programs, English Language Learner programs, Punjabi language program, Fine Arts and athletics opportunities, French Immersion and Intensive French programs and many more. The school district has created Parent Advisory Councils (PACs) to represent the parents and take their active participation in valuing education for the children through school planning councils. The school planning council is the council that consists of 3 parents, 1 teacher, school principal and 1 student with grade numbers of 10, 11 or 12. The school district board develops policies and regulations to monitor the results of the school districts with the support of Surrey Board of Education. The policies are amended according to the involvement of new processes to satisfy the needs of students with the active support of stakeholder groups such as parents, staff and community members. The Surrey School District serves the total area of 328 square kilometers within the regions of Surrey and White Rock and also serves the rural area of Barnston Island. The professional teachers prepare the students with knowledge and skills to build a healthy, democratic and diverse society. The Surrey School District began its operations in the year 1906.
