What is Phoenix Airport?
Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is one of the largest and busiest airports in Arizona, United States. The airport came into existence in July, 1935. It is owned and operated by the City of Phoenix under Phoenix Airport System. The airport started as "The Farm" because of isolated area. Phoenix Sky Harbor emerged as major national passenger airport in the year 1952 with opening of terminal 1. The airport is regional Gateway to Mexican and Hawaiian departures.
Flight Operations
The air traffic control tower in Sky Harbor is among the tallest airport towers in North America. The tower started operation in the year 2007. Most of the international airline companies operate passenger flight through this airport. British airways, US airways and
Hawaiian Airlines offer nonstop flight to London, Mexico, Canada and Alaska. The airport is destination hub for Ameriflight,
Great Lakes Airlines, Air Canada, Airways,
Southwest Airlines and many other airlines. US airways has the largest operation on this airport. Phoenix Sky Harbor airport has a museum archive that collects and preserves artifacts, memorabilia that are related to Sky Harbor. The airport has free 24 hours bus service to connect to terminals of the airport. Phoenix Sky Harbor also provides customer service to the passengers for special needs. It regulates approximately, 1,200 aircraft operations per day together with 800 tons of cargo. As of 2012, it served over 40,448,932 passengers.
