What is Nj Department of Labor?

The New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development operates under the Jurisdiction of New Jersey state. It is a governmental agency and is among the sixteen executive branch departments in the state. After the approval of Governor Jim McGreevey, the department was renamed to Department of Labor and Workforce Development in 2004; however, it was initially known as Department of Labor. It is headquartered in Trenton. The Department was headed by Commissioner. Currently, Harold J. Wirths is commissioner of the department who was appointed in 2010 by the Governor. Prior, Harold J. Wirths had been operating two future stores and was a member of Sussex County Board of Chosen Freeholders. To assist the Commissioner, there are two other officers: The Deputy Commissioner and The Chief of Staff. It organizes various programs in the state that effect the daily lives of residents of the state. Its list of programs include the unemployment insurance program, the family leave insurance program, many One-Stop Career Centers and many others. The Department consists of Employee Residency Review Committee which offers exemption on the residency requirements. The New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development provides grants to the local industries to train residents and help them to improve various skills like language proficiency, communication, computer literacy and many other skills. The monthly grant can be used for class room training as well as on-job-training.
