William Asbury Buchanan a prominent newspaper reporter and businessman after a number of failed attempts to buy stakes in several popular newspapers of the country in order to start their issues in Alberta, invested in Lethbridge Herald in 1907. Even though the staff was minimal the Herald managed to circulate three hundred copies without the transportation facilities of the modern times. Buchanan was also responsible for converting the Herald from a weekly publication to a Daily in 1907.
Buchanan continuously transferred the base of the publication several times during its early period until the publication got based in 6 Street off 3 Avenue South which was the home for the Herald until it acquired the present head quarters located in 504 7 St. S. in 1952.The Herald survives several setbacks corresponding to events around the world affecting livelihood of millions of people like the two world wars, the great depression of 1930’s etc and continued to be a giant force influencing the people were several similar publications had failed during these periods.
