What is Clipper Card?
Clipper card is a contactless Smart card, which is utilized for Transit fare payment. It is all in one card that maintains the records of any passes, ride books and cash value, which card holder load onto it. It is used in San Francisco Bay Area. Clipper card was initially released as Translink in 2002, as part of pilot program. The card was released by Metropolitan Transportation Commission. It obtained its current form in June 2010. All the rule and regulations of transit fare are applicable on the card.
Clipper card enables the card holder to modify it, according to their transit requirements. The card can maintain many passes, tickets and up to $300 cash at a time. Cash value on it can be utilized to ride any transit system in San Francisco Bay Area such as Muni, AC Transit, SamTrans, Golden Gate Transit, etc. Card holder has to reload Clipper card, when their pass expire or has less $10 holder cash on it. Clipper card replaced the traditional Paper tickets system, which expire after 90 days of purchase.
